A mock up of three white cellphones on a sage green background. Each phone shows a different screen from the Out of Thyme app. On the left is a screen showing an image of sage and detailing what you can replace it with along with a cooking tip. The middle screen shows the main app page which features the app logo and three green buttons stacked on top of each other, they read "Search" "List" and "Combinations." The third phone shows a screen showing the names of different seasoning combinations and below each name in a green box is a list of what is in each mixture.
Out of Thyme is an app that was created for fun, but also out of frustration. How many times have you looked at a recipe that called for something like pumpkin pie spice and sighed because you have no idea what goes into pumpkin pie spice? How many times have you been in the middle of cooking a dish and as you reach to grab your jar of sumac realize that it is empty? What do you do? Frantically search the web for answers? Or you could open up this simple little app and find your solutions quickly and clearly.
A rectangular image split down the middle with a green bar to create two connected square images. On the left is a header that reads "sketches" which sits on top of a photograph from a sketchbook page that shows the basic user flow of the app. On the right side of the image is a photograph of two shelves holding eight glass jars of varying shapes and sizes. Each jar has some kind of herb or spice in it.
Much like most projects, this one started with all kinds of grand ideas, such as recipes, ingredient sourcing, flavor profiles, and so on. As time went on, those ideas, while helpful, did not seem completely necessary and the scope was reduced to a simple app that focused on seasoning substitution. Thus the name Out of Thyme was born.

On the right is the header "Logo & Colors" Below it is the app logo in a reddish pink color, and below that are three squares, white, reddish pink and sage green. Under each square is the color name, from left to right that is "Sea Salt," "Peppercorn," and "Sage."
The prototype for this app was fully created in Adobe XD and can be previewed here. There was a time when I was considering building it out the full app, but life has had other plans. Perhaps one day I will return to it, but for now, it was simply a nice way to learn about seasonings and Adobe XD.
